foxglove116: keijo/robert horton "50" split 2x cd-r
to celebrate robert horton's 50th birthday (4/15/06), he has joined forces with finland's mighty keijo virtanen. each artist offers up an entire album (over 100 minutes of music in total). these two are kindred spirits without even knowing it. these two discs find each participant circling amongst the harmony of the spheres. horton's disjointed, shambolic compositions rain like acid from the blackened skies. heavy doses of acoustic wreckage litter the cosmos like the heavens have been oblitterated and turned into sawdust and smoke. horton is a flightless bird soaring through the air.

keeping all of this grounded is jyväskylä resident keijo. these five tracks were recorded at his 50th birthday celebration with a host of collaborators and friends. scattered woodwinds and percussion sound like they're floating in a water chamber. various asian stringed instruments line the aural streets the ensemble creates, giving this a completely unique sound. while there are numerous free jazz inclinations here with hints at a more subdued rauhan orkesteri, keijo's hand keeps these songs from reaching full-fledged chaos. everything here is under control.
