Strategy is the main solo project of Paul Dickow of Nudge, who have released albums on Kranky and Tigerbeat6. His works tend to touch on various aspects of dub, techno, ambient, and related fields, and this limited 12" shifts the focus on Krautrock. The first track, "Unconventional Wisdom", hits the ball out of the park immediately, with a great woozy synth melody that repeats throughout the entire song, and plenty of spacey effects and echo. This is followed by "Wurlitzer Tapeloop", which enters "Phaedra"-era Tangerine Dream territory, with its cascading melodies and shimmering space sounds. The second side is taken up by 10-minute "Primordial Soup", which features plenty of dubby percussion, scratchy guitar and squiggly synthesizer by Dickow's Nudge cohort Brian Foote, and a theremin freakout at the end of the track. All in all, this release is a very high quality fusion of Krautrock, ambient and dub. 8/10 -- Paul Simpson (1 July, 2008)
