Inchworms are those little green things you see in summer crawling on leaves, arching their backs, and generally moving around with nary a care in the world. They’re actually the caterpillar version of the geometrid (or geometer) moth. And they’re not all green, which is surely a good thing for those of you who dig a little color in your insect world. Some are also brown or black, and that’s a good thing because they get to blend in better with their surroundings, chameleon style. They don’t usually grow past an inch long, and as far as I know, they aren’t much of a harm to anyone at all. I guess there’s some folks out there who also call them measuring worms or loopers. Whatever the term, we should all be happy they’re here. I know I’d happily send a few hours watching them locomote around. There’s also some kinda young enterprising band from Chicago who’ve used the same name, and if pressed, I’d say they sound a bit like Wilco or any number of other “Americana” acts. And like their insect brethren, they’re pretty harmless. Some catchy songs, all very pleasant and earnest and well recorded, if that’s yer cup. You might even find yourself humming a few of them as you about your day. But when you’ve got bugs this cool moving around on your leaves, who wants to talk about music? 6/10 --
