Sam Franklin and James Benson make quasi-sloppy, psychedelic garage pop-punk for those of you who had a rotten, abuse-filled high school era and who dream of returning to your hometown in the suburbs to find your nemesis – the poorly-aged former football star – working the stock room at the shabby local grocery store. Musical brethren to the likes of Times New Viking and Wavves, Frat Dad have managed to flawlessly embody the nerdy angst pent up in many early twenty-something young males across the United States – and more power to them. A-Side anthem “Greg the Nerd” is an energetic, distorted, reverb-laden romp, while the flip, “Freak in Nature” is a carefree, weed-fueled ode to being weird, complete with a token “woo-ooo-ooo” vocal part. Frat Dad haven't really invented anything new, but who cares? These two tracks are fun and likeable – I'm certainly looking forward to hearing more from Frat Dad. 8/10 --
