he north sea has undergone many changes in its nearly 10 year history. it all began with a bedroom and a boss ps-3 delay/pitch shift effects pedal. it is one of the best birthday gifts i have ever received. the debut was on the cactus gum cassette compilation, chutes & ladders, under the moniker az 1492. the track was titled "clock ticking, resonance." this was the only release using the name az 1492. the next releases appeared under the name ukraine. this one stuck for a while. after two cassettes and a few compilation appearances, though, it was time for a sabbatical. the break lasted for three years.
in 2000 after the cactus gum empire had fallen (hey, rome fell too!), it was time to return to the fold. this time, the launch came under a new name, phosphor. an album was recorded entitled "dreaming of kyoto," but it never surfaced. it rotted. the vaults, they stank. phosphor faded like a lamb w/o release...
2003 brought on the birth of digitalis and thus the project was reborn. the name the north sea was adopted and the debut was recorded and set for release. the north sea is brad rose, and the north sea is very cold. as we have progressed through the last few years, the north sea has expanded and moved in random directions, reaching it's tendrils to the wooden stars.
